Il Corso di Dottorato è costituito in seno al Dipartimento di Biologia dell’Università di Pisa, che raggruppa una gamma di discipline che studiano la vita di organismi a tutti i livelli di complessità dalle interazioni tra le molecole biologiche a livello cellulare alle interazioni tra gli esseri viventi nei diversi ecosistemi. Gli organismi, le cellule, le molecole e le loro associazioni interattive intra- ed inter-specifiche, oltre che i rapporti tra questi livelli di organizzazione biologica e l’ambiente, rappresentano il campo di indagine caratterizzante le discipline oggetto di studio. Il Corso di Dottorato di Ricerca in Biologia è finalizzato, anche attraverso l’incentivazione della possibilità per i dottorandi di trascorrere periodi di lavoro e di studio all’estero, alla formazione di figure professionali specializzate di alto livello di qualificazione per l’inserimento nel mondo della ricerca scientifica accademica ed industriale. L’inserimento professionale dei dottori di ricerca in Biologia è agevolato dalla possibilità di operare su specifiche problematiche di R&S in gruppi pubblici e privati attivi nei diversi campi della Ricerca Biologica, che spazia dalle ricerche biologiche e biotecnologiche su microrganismi, sistemi animali e vegetali, alle attività di monitoraggio ambientale e del disinquinamento e gestione dei rifiuti, alle strategie preventive o di controllo delle infezioni.
