Course contents

This Master Course is two year long. At least 120 credits (ECTs) must be globally acquired. The average yearly work load for a full-time student is 60 ECTs.
The ECT corresponds to 25 hours of working load for a student. It normally corresponds to 8 hours of lectures, 2 of practical training activities and the rest for personal study. Part-time admissions are possible.
Each course or any other training activity requires a final verification of the individual profit, normally an examination; the quality of the student preparation is assessed by grade expressed in thirties for the exams and in up to one hundred and ten points for the final test ( a cum laude further evaluation is also possible).
Each year course is divided in two semesters.
The first year requires a total studying load of 60ECTs; the second year, first semester, 24ECTs. In the last semester 12ECTs are to be chosen among formal courses and 12ECTSs are practical activities. Having passed all the exams, the student is admitted to the Final Thesis discussion, after having written a Dissertation (12ECTS).
The teaching activity includes formal lectures, laboratory and/or farm activities. The former are designed to provide updated knowledge on the integrated aspects related to animal science, the latter are devoted to the practice of experimental and technical methods and to seminars and tutorials in small groups. Periods of study abroad can be organised in other Italian and European universities, also in the framework of international agreements.
Career opportunities for Animal Science Master graduates include freelance private consultant profession, after official registration as Doctors in Agronomy and Forestry, and also the possible employment with management and direction responsibility functions in:
- livestock farms, wildlife, hunting and aquaculture concerns;
- feed sector and product development for animal husbandry;
- companies of animal products processing;
- companies marketing products of animal origin, including the management and control of product distribution;
- public bodies involved in farming;
- associations, organizations, and companies involved in farming, conservation of native fauna, genetic improvement, promotion and marketing of products;
- technical assistance and consulting, also in the developing countries;
- teaching and training and applied research in animal production.

Students wishing to enroll in the Master Degree Course of Animal Science must hold at least 60 ECTS in the core and/or characteristic courses mentioned in the Ministerial Table at Class L25 (Agricultural Science and Technology), L38 (Zootechnical Science and Technology of Animal Products), LM 42 (Veterinary Medicine) and Class 20 (Agricultural Science and Technology, Food and Forestry), 40 (Zootechnical Science and Animal Production) and 47/S of the previous order, or they must be:
-at least 20 ECTs in SSDs FIS/01, FIS/08, INF/01, MAT/01, MAT/09, SECS-S01, SECS-S02, VET/01, BIO/01, BIO/02, BIO/03, BIO/04, BIO/05, BIO/07, CHIM/03, CHIM/06, BIO/10, BIO/11, BIO/12, BIO/13;
-at least 40 ECTs in SSDs VET/02, VET/03, VET/04, VET/05, VET/06, VET/07, AGR/01, AGR/02, AGR/07, AGR/09, AGR/10, AGR/11, AGR/13, AGR/15, AGR/16, AGR/17, AGR/18, AGR/19, AGR/20, ICAR/06.
The candidate has to pass an interview intended to verify the adequacy of personal knowledge.
The Master Course of Animal Science has first year registration not restricted.
