Learning objectives
The Master’s Degree in Body and Mind sciences is an interdepartmental course that aims to integrate in-depth psychological knowledge with medical knowledge. The course aims to train a professional psychologist most experienced and closer to the soma (with special attention devoted to the knowledge of the results of neuroscience and that relating to psychic phenomena that influence the psychosomatic illness and the course of medical treatment).
The setting of the research and teaching degree program provides a training model that integrates the latest research methodologies of scientific psychology with the domains of medicine fundamental to the understanding of the relationship between mind, body, and central nervous system and their mutual influences. In this context, particular attention will be given to the field of basic, cognitive, and social neuroscience and their relationships with various forms of mental disorders.
The Master’s Degree in Body and Mind sciences is accredited by EuroPsy (European qualification standard for psychologists).

Career opportunities:
The scientific culture and the methodological competences acquired allow the graduates in Body and Mind sciences to fruitfully continue their education in postgraduate or doctoral schools in psychology, psychotherapy, cognitive sciences, neuropsychology, neuroscience and similar areas. The knowledge of the normal and pathological functioning of the mind/brain and the analytical skills they have acquired allow them, after passing the professional qualification, to gain access to careers in the psychological, clinical psychological or neuropsychological fields within health institutions, psychological, medical and psychiatric services, local government and institutions, agencies of the community sector, research institutes, and productive infrastructures and enterprises.

Admission test for the degree course
There is no admission test, but access to the Master’s degree is dependent upon the evaluation of the knowledge level of the scholars on the contents of the courses of the Bachelor’s degree by means of a multiple choice test. Depending on the score, the candidate can be directly admitted to the Degree Course or rejected because they are considered not adequately prepared.

Main rules for the final examination
The final examination consists in the defence of a thesis before an ad hoc commission. The thesis reports original work that should demonstrate the knowledge and competences acquired as well as the ability to develop and complete a theoretical or empirical research project or a review and critical analysis of the scientific literature relevant to a chosen area. The thesis may be written in Italian or English (in which case it must contain an extensive summary in Italian).

The Master’s degree is specifically addressed to scholars with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or Medicine.
