Course contents

The MA program offers an educational training in the field of linguistic theories as well as in methodologies for the analysis of linguistic phenomena, with special focus on sociolinguistics, dialectology, language acquisition and teaching, clinical linguistics, corpus linguistics.
Courses are meant not only to offer an up-to-date knowledge of linguistic studies, but a constant training in data analysis, investigation and discussion based upon several tools (oral and written corpora, internet resources and databases). The development of critical thought, autonomy in knowledge elaboration and judgement, needed not only in research and academic work but in any work position involving a high degree of responsibility, is the primary goal of the educational programme. To this end, a relevant role is played by the research work carried on for the final dissertation and starting at the beginning of the second year.
The main areas of studies are General and Applied Linguistics (Theoretical linguistics, Historical Linguistics, Linguistics Tipology, Sociolinguistics, Language acquisition, Clinical linguistics, Corpus linguistics) and Italian Linguistics (Dialectology, Geolinguistics). Comparative linguistics and Philology (Romance and Germanic) and Studies in Asian and African languages are further possible areas of studies.
