Course contents

The LM-91 Artificial Intelligence for Biomedicine and Healthcare program aims to create a professional figure capable of applying digital innovation to the biomedical and healthcare sector. After graduating, they will have a transversal interdisciplinary skillset that joins the biomedical field together with practical experience and solid skills in artificial intelligence and data science.
The course take place in 2-year time, and it is divided into 120 credits necessary for the achievement of the master's degree.
Courses covering the main fields of biomedicine, data management, and data analysis, are foreseen, as well as integrated courses aimed at deepening the practical and multidisciplinary aspects of these areas. In addition, ethical, legal, and economic aspects concerning to the analysis and management of biomedical data in public and private contexts will be addressed.
Students will accumulate experience in the laboratory and, together with the internship linked to the thesis degree that can be done in public or private companies, in Italy or abroad, will develop professionalism and technical skills that will be useful in any working reality and in research.
The graduate will represent a professional bridging figure between two different realities, making the communication between biomedicine and data analysis more effective, in a world where too often these two disciplines speak different languages, reciprocally little understandable.
The career opportunities are: to work as digital innovators in biomedicine in private or public research laboratories, within hospitals, clinical research laboratories, or public health companies; to exploit they managerial skills within organizations in the public or private health sector for the administration of therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, health and epidemiological data that use omics data or big data, technological innovation processes centered on data in the biomedical field; to undertake an entrepreneurial career, for example in the development of informatic tools for diagnosis and prognosis or for the management of large-scale health data.

For access to the course, knowledge of the English language at a minimum B2 level is required. All the students who obtained a university degree taught in English or at least 1CFU L-LIN/12 will be considered as in possess of a B2 or higher certification of language. All the other students can present a TOEFL/IBT, Academic IELTS, Cambridge English: FIRST-FCE, or similar certifications. The candidates who do not fit in these two described situations will be evaluated for their English competence during the oral interview of the pre-admission.
Other educational requirements
The minimum curricular requirement is to be documented, and it is composed of a university degree or an equivalent/superior degree, containing at least 45 CFU in the following scientific areas: Mathematics (MAT/*); Statistics and statistics models for decision making (SECS-S/*); Economics and statistics (SECS-P/05); Informatics and engineering (INF/01, ING-INF/*); Physics (FIS/01-02); Biology (BIO/*); Medicine (MED/*).

All the students will be tested on the prerequisite knowledge and skills. The test will be composed of a written part and an oral interview. The written part will be identical for all the incoming students, independently from the CFU previously obtained nor the previously obtained university degree. The following topics will be subject of examination during the test: Fundaments of informatics and principles of structured programming; Computer architecture, software, and operating systems; Computer networks, internet, protocols; Relational database: entity-relationship model, logical design, SQL.
