Course contents

This Master is designed for international students who want to learn about the different dimensions of food and understand how the political, economic, social, cultural and nutritional aspects are connected.

The program addresses the most debated contemporary issues relating to food policy, sovereignty and sustainability, with a particular focus on:

world landscapes of gastronomy, food systems and culinary cultures;
emerging trends and global changes in food systems and cultures resulting from intensive mobilities of people, social imaginaries, ideals, goods and capital;
worldwide, non-Western and decolonized perspectives on food production, distribution and consumption;
the promotion of biodiversity and cultural diversity.
The Master of Gastronomy: World Food Cultures and Mobility is taught by approximately 50 lecturers from 13 different countries who provide students with a truly worldwide and diversified study of food.

In Italy: UNISG Study Trips are a unique opportunity for our students to investigate the complexity of current food systems in the world by integrating theoretical concepts from the classroom with direct and practical experience in the field.

An integral part of each master program are the three territorial study trips (one in Italy, one in Europe, and the last overseas), designed to allow our students to discover a wide variety of local products and reflect on how they connect to their environmental, economic, and social context.

This is the 360° learning experience: gastronomy defined not only by the flavour, nutritional value, and molecular composition of food, but also an understanding from a socio-cultural, anthropological, and economic perspective derived from their experience in the field. These trips focus on the various phases of food production, from the raw material to the final distribution and communication strategies, of both artisanal and industrial products.

The organization of and planning of the didactic content and travel logistics is managed by the staff of the Tutor Office, who also accompany the students during the trip.

In order to apply to the Master in Food Culture, Communication & Marketing, candidates must: register online; ?obtain a positive evaluation of their Dossier Note It is recommended that you upload your application dossier at least one week before the application deadline All the aforementioned application steps are free and non-binding. The University of Gastronomic Sciences does not have an early admissions process. However, in some cases, and for justifiable reasons, it is possible to request an individual pre-evaluation by writing to segreteria@unisg.it Please explain your situation and attach supporting documentation. UNISG offers 1 total scholarship, including Student Housing and Academic Tables, for citizens from low-income countries or lower-middle-income or upper-middle-income countries.

All UNISG students who have graduated or are graduating, who enroll in one of the Master programs at UNISG, are eligible for a reduction from the university fee applied to the second installment.
Italian students residing in Italy may apply for student loans at UNISG partner banking institutions
Students with United States citizenship are eligible to apply for American financial aid through the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program. Note that for all UNISG programs, loan applications must be initiated by the student and received at UNISG electronically.

Notes
The maximum number of students that may be enrolled is 25. The Board of Directors may decide to exceed the above-stated limit and enroll more students that meet the selection criteria. The minimum number of students that may be enrolled is 15. Should this lower limit not be reached, UNISG has the
right to not undertake the Master. Students who enrolled in the Master shall be informed of such a
decision by email or registered mail. Within 7 days of the aforesaid decision UNISG shall refund
enrolled students any fees they have already paid without any surcharge and/or additional expense due
to accrued interests and/or currency appreciation.
The Master is open to all graduated students in possession of an undergraduate, bachelor or other postsecondary degree in any field, comprising a minimum of the equivalent of three years of full-time study, and worth university credit. Final-year students may start the Master program as auditors if they are still to obtain their undergraduate degree.
