Course contents

The Master's program provides basic and advanced knowledge in the fields of mathematics, applied physics, neuroanatomy and neurophysiology. This knowledge allows to understand the nature and potentiality of the neuroimaging techniques, such as magneto- and electro-encephalography, functional and structural magnetic resonance, and neurostimulation techniques, for the study of cognitive neurosciences and for the understanding of neurological, psychiatric and cognitive disorders.
Given that specialized professional figures with expertise in advanced neuroimaging technologies are lacking in production and commercial units of clinical and the business sectors – the Master responds to a need for training that is shared across the national territory. In particular, holders of the qualification awarded by the Master will have the opportunity to find a job in the following fields:
- neurodiagnostic, neurorehabilitation or neuroprosthetic device market, as well as pharmaceutical industry;
- public or private companies that design, test and monitor human-machine interaction systems or computer-mediated communication systems; more generally, companies operating in sectors requiring deep knowledge of brain functioning;
- service companies that offer consultancy activities in commercial and scientific sectors; scientific dissemination to the general public of clinical and basic research, as well as of its impact on human health.
Furthermore, the Master title will provide the candidate with an advantageous position to access research doctorate programs related to the Master's topics in Italy and abroad.
The importance of second-level training in the field of neuroimaging is also supported by world-wide evidence of the translational potential of neuroimaging research. For instance, neuroimaging techniques allow investigations to get knowledge on neural diversity (see Gabrieli - Neuron, 2015), that is, on how the brain changes according to individual characteristics, such as age, gender, personality and culture. Hence, the professional figure formed by the Master will find job opportunities in basic and applied research programs, in private and public structures, such as Universities and Research Institutions.

Il Master è tenuto in lingua inglese e con le seguenti modalità: le lezioni, comprese le attività seminariali, saranno erogate in modalità teledidattica a distanza tramite la piattaforma Microsoft Teams, mentre i laboratori ed il tirocinio sono da svolgersi in presenza.

Sono ammessi a partecipare al Master i laureandi della sessione autunnale 2022-2023 nelle classi di laurea sopra riportate, a condizione che il titolo accademico richiesto risulti conseguito entro il termine indicato nel Bando.
I laureandi vengono ammessi con riserva previa domanda di ammissione on-line da effettuarsi con le modalità indicate sul Bando. In caso di mancato conseguimento del titolo accademico, tali candidati decadranno dal diritto all’immatricolazione.

Nel caso in cui il numero di aspiranti sia superiore a quello massimo previsto, l’ammissione al Corso avverrà, da parte di apposita Commissione, tramite una selezione determinata sulla base del Curriculum Vitae et studiorum fino a copertura dei posti disponibili. La Commissione formulerà una graduatoria di merito, espressa in trentesimi, determinata sulla base della valutazione dei titoli fino a max 50 punti, con i seguenti criteri: - Fino ad un massimo di punti 10 per pubblicazioni (ivi inclusa la tesi di laurea e/o di dottorato); - Fino ad un massimo di punti 10 per partecipazione e presentazione a seminari, congressi, workshop; - Fino ad un massimo di punti 10 per collaborazioni con gruppi di ricerca nazionali o internazionali; - Fino ad un massimo di punti 10 per soggiorni in istituti o enti di ricerca nazionali o internazionali; - Fino ad un massimo di punti 10 per pregressa esperienza sui temi di ricerca oggetto del master. Nella valutazione dei suddetti titoli si terrà conto della congruenza degli stessi con i temi del master. In caso di parità di punteggio, prevarrà il candidato anagraficamente più giovane. Gli eventuali posti resisi vacanti a seguito di rinuncia o decadenza dei vincitori, saranno ricoperti mediante scorrimento della graduatoria di merito, fino ad esaurimento dei posti disponibili. Non si darà luogo a valutazione selettiva nel caso in cui il numero dei candidati sia pari a quello minimo ed inferiore o pari a quello massimo.

Finally, evidence is enormously increasing of the potential of neuroimaging techniques for identifying "biomarkers", ie indicators of the risk to develop a specific disease before symptoms are present, or at a very early stage. This opens the door to the prevention of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's, or pathologies such as schizophrenia.
