Course contents

The Postgraduate Master Program in Coronary and Structural Interventional Cardiology is a two-year advanced training course, with a modular structure that allows enrollment both for the entire two-year period (Coronary and Structural Interventional Cardiology), and for a single year (Structural Interventional Cardiology ).

The path in Coronary and Structural Interventional Cardiology will take place over two years, allowing the acquisition of 120 ECTS. The training activities, with a strongly applicative slant, will allow the acquisition of hyper-specialist skills in the field of both coronary and structural interventional cardiology.

The path in Structural Interventional Cardiology will take place over one year, allowing the acquisition of 60 ECTS. The training activities will allow the acquisition of hyper-specialist skills focusing on structural interventional cardiology. At the end of the course, it will be possible to consider continuing with a second year that completes the advanced skills in the coronary field.

In its two curricula, the Master aims to provide participants with adequate and up-to-date theoretical and practical preparation in the field of interventional cardiology, making them capable of setting correct treatment indications in light of the progress of percutaneous and surgical revascularization techniques and of perform simple and complex angioplasties as first operator.

Candidates will also be exposed to structural interventional procedures such as transcatheter aortic prosthesis implantation (TAVI), percutaneous correction of mitral regurgitation with Mitraclip, percutaneous closure of left appendage, percutaneous closure of left appendage, percutaneous closure of patency foramen ovale (PFO) and atrial septal defects (ASD).

The didactic result will be verified through attendance and daily practice in the hemodynamics room and the preparation of an experimental thesis.

The two-year Master's Program in Coronary and Structural Interventional Cardiology is organized into modules:
- an entire two-year period, with a full-time foreseen attendance, dedicated to specialized training in both coronary and structural cardiology;
- a one-year self-standing module, with a full-time foreseen attendance, dedicated to advanced training in structural cardiology only.

Candidates can choose to enroll either in the two-year track (120 CFU) or the one-year track (60 CFU).

The Master Program consists of a part of face-to-face didactic activity, a substantial part of clinical-practical activities in the clinic and hospital ward, and concludes with the formulation, design, and writing of an interventional cardiology protocol with performance of a clinical-experimental thesis.

There will also be periodic checks on progress in learning interventional techniques. They will be made through discussion of the revascularization strategy and of useful materials on selected cases. Checks will also be made on CT measurement for appropriate selection of valve prostheses in transcatheter valve procedures. The periodic reviews may result in an outcome expressed as a judgment of suitability and not as a numerical evaluation. Eventually, there might be a feedback.

Admission to the Master is based both on the evaluation of educational and professional qualifications and an interview. Candidates will be assigned points (maximum 20 points totally) based on the following criteria: - Educational background, thesis and grade: maximum 6 points - Specialization: if in Cardiology up to 2 points, if in Cardiac Surgery up to 1 point; - Professional CV (relevant clinical activity including any publications): maximum 6 points - Interview: maximum 6 points Below the minimum treshold of 10 points the candidate may be judged ineligible for admission to the Master's program. The committee will be composed of the Master's Teaching Committee whose judgment is final. Documents to be included in the application form: - Self-certification or certificate of graduation indicating the grade and title of the thesis; - Self-certification or certificate of qualification to practice as a Medical Surgeon; - Self-certification or certificate of Specialization in Cardiology and/or Cardiac Surgery; - Signed professional curriculum vitae (indicating relevant clinical activity, including any publications); - Copy of a valid personal identification document. International candidates are additionally requested to provide: 1. Legalized translation of the Degree Certificate 2. Declaration of Value (to be issued by the Italian Embassy/Consulate where the degree was obtained) or Statement of Comparability.
