Course contents

The II level Master in Coronary Interventional Cardiology aims to provide theorical and practical skills in the field of interventional cardiology. The candidate will be trained from the basis of the diagnostic coronary angiography to the performance as a first operator of percutaneous coronary intervention.

The candidate will be exposed to intravascular imaging technique (IVUS, OCT) and to the study of coronary physiology (Fractional Flow Reserve – FFR; Coronary Flow Reserve – CFR; Index of Microcirculatory Resistance – IMR etc).

The results will be verified daily throughout the catheterization laboratory attendance and by the writing of an experimental thesis.

The Master corresponds to a II level Specializing Master within the academic Italian system. Upon completion of the 12-months, and after the traineeship and final project dissertation, participants are awarded 60 ECTS.

Attendance in person is mandatory throughout the academic year.

The Master consists of a part of frontal didactic activity, a consistent part of clinical-practical activities in the clinic and hospital ward, and it concludes with the formulation, design, and writing of an interventional cardiology protocol with performance of a clinical-experimental thesis.

There will also be periodic checks on progress in learning interventional techniques. They will be made through discussion of the revascularization strategy and of useful materials on selected cases. Checks will also be made on CT measurement for appropriate selection of valve prostheses in transcatheter valve procedures. The periodic reviews may result in an outcome expressed as a judgment of suitability and not as a numerical evaluation. Eventually, there might be a feedback.

The access to the Master Program is subject to an evaluation of the candidate's academic and professional titles and it is followed by an interview. The Evaluation Board will use the following criteria to establish the Admission Ranking (maximum 20 points totally): - Academic career (graduation grade, marks in the relevant exams, relevance of the degree thesis): up to 6 points; - Specialization/residency in Cardiology (up to 2 points), Heart Surgery (up to 1 point) - Professional/scientific profile and experience (seniority, related scientific publications, any other qualifications): up to 6 points. - Interview to be carried out remotely starting from one week after the admissions close, on September 15th 2024: up to 6 points. Below the minimum treshold of 10 points the candidate may be judged ineligible for admission to the Master's program. Once the qualifications-based evaluation is complete, in the section Admissions Ranking and Enrollment you will find the ranking list with admitted candidates, followed by candidates who are suitable but not high enough in the ranking and subsequentely, candidates who are not admitted. Evaluation and feedback will take place once admissions will be closed, starting from September 15th 2024. In order to complete your application, please prepare the following documents in PDF format (max 30Mbyte) to be uploaded: 1) Passport 2) Degree along with final grade and legalized translation 3) Declaration of Value / Cimea Statement of Comparability 4) Transcripts 5) Certification of sending institute stating at least 50 PCIs performed 6) CV 7) Pubblications Should you not be able to complete your application in one session, you can access the admission portal several times in order to do so. Once the application is submitted, you will receive a confimation email/integration request from UniSR Master Office. A professional medical insurance will be requested upon enrollment.
