Course contents

HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE
The aim of the curriculum is to train in the use and methods of historical-architectural scientific research, in relation to the various today in use in the international community. The history of architectural organisms, examined in their diachronic development, in fact also interferes with questions of the historical and historical-artistic disciplines in general, the history of criticism and science, the history of construction techniques and of structural organism and the history of esthetics. The possible fields of study are, among the most significant, the complex methods of acquisition, treatment and dissemination of information on existing architecture, the analysis of archival sources, the history of architectural historiography, the history of transformations of single buildings or of groups of them, the history of cities, territories and landscapes, the many possible relationships between the history of architecture and restoration, the more strictly figurative issues also linked to architectural orders.

REPRESENTATION
The aim of the curriculum is to train scientific research in the field of descriptive geometry, digital graphics, architectural drawing, surveying, documentation and critical reading of the architectural heritage, urban space and landscape. The aim is to train a PhD able to autonomously monitor and develop original activities on different topics, with repercussions also on an international level in universities, productive and professional sectors, in particular of the creative cultural industry. To this end, training activities are organized that cover very articulated fields of interest, including, as examples, the acquisition, processing and dissemination of data aimed at representing information on architecture, urban space and the landscape, their integration and management also aimed at communication and valorisation of the latter at various scales.

RESTORATION
The aim of the curriculum is to train in the deepening and use of scientific research methods aimed at understanding the relationship between theories and practice of conservation and restoration of existing architectural organisms. The research projects are aimed at issues of a theoretical nature, at urban scale or conservation and restoration issues involving the protection of territorial and landscape testimonies and contexts. Among the fields of study we must at least mention, among the most significant, the knowledge of current trends in the theory and practice of restoration, the history of the historiography of architectural, structural and urban restoration, issues relating to technological systems, the contributions of chemistry and of physics in the discipline, the restoration of contemporary architecture and archaeological assets, museography, the integration of the conservation project with the architectural project in various ways.

Written examination Curriculum HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE: The written test will be in Italian and may cover the following topics: - History of architecture, from Antiquity to the Contemporary Age - History of architectural criticism - Project and patronage in history - Historical architectural treaties - History of the city and urban planning. - History of territory and landscape - Direct and indirect reading of historical architecture - Insights into methods of research and historical-technical investigation of buildings. Curriculum REPRESENTATION: The written-graphic will be in Italian and will cover the topics of Drawing in its broadest sense. Drawing is intended as a tool to approach formal structure, to analyze and communicate Cultural Heritage and its values, as well as the basis for a for an effective dissemination and fruition of cultural sites. Topics covered include: graphic, infographic and multimedia languages as well as their scientific foundations, with special attention on Descriptive Geometry and its grapghic and spatial models; and the history of the disciplines of representation; ; the history of the disciplines of representation; surveying as a process of morphological and thematic knowledge oriented to critical interpretation; modeling, including informational modeling, prototyping and visual communication; applications to support the constructive process at its different scales, from design concept, to its executive definition and the management of the entire life cycle of product, including digital ones. Curriculum RESTORATION: The written test will be in Italian and may cover the following topics: - Theory and history of restoration - The restoration Charters - The contemporary debate in restoration - Conservation problems and techniques - Methods of research and historical-technical investigation of buildings - Archaeological restoration of ancient monuments and site protection - Urban restoration and territory and landscape restoration - Management and valorization of architectural assets and landscape Curriculum HISTORY, REPRESENTATION AND RESTORATION OF ARCHITECTURE: The written test will be in English and will address the methodological approaches to scientific research, coping with the city of Rome cultural heritage within the three domains history, drawing and conservation.
