The Hybrid Master in Local Food Policy, jointly conferred by UNISG and its primary partner, CIHEAM Bari, stands out as a premier educational experience, uniquely integrating blended learning, a profound local focus, hands-on experiential learning opportunities, and networking enhancement within the food policy sector. Aimed at arming students with targeted expertise in local food policies, this hybrid program prepares them for impactful careers across diverse settings, including innovative food enterprises, governmental agencies, non-profit organizations, UN bodies, research and advocacy institutions, consultancies, media firms, and academia.

By melding theoretical knowledge with practical skills, it equips graduates to navigate and lead within the multifaceted food policy landscape. This comprehensive approach positions this master’s program as a pivotal stepping stone for aspiring professionals eager to contribute significantly to the field.

In Italy: The Career Center supports UNISG students during the delicate transition into the professional world. While the students are here in Pollenzo, the Career Center provides constant support to develop their own unique career design through the “Cultivating your Career” program, which consists of collective workshops and individual coaching sessions.

Through the Career Fair and the Career Center website, the office helps students in gaining a better understanding of different professional sectors to start or continue their career.

Upon graduation, the Career Center continues monitoring the Alumni career, fostering a strong and active professional network that puts together new and experienced gastronomes worldwide.

A three-year undergraduate “first-level” degree (or equivalent):
Applicants not in possession of a three-year university degree equivalent to a Bachelor’s may still apply and be admitted to the Master under auditor status, obtaining a Certificate of Attendance upon successful completion of the program;
Degrees accredited outside of Italy must be submitted together with a legalization document attesting to both the equivalency and authenticity of the diploma.

In order to participate in the admissions to the Master, applicants must carry out the registration procedure on the UNISG website (www.unisg.it). Register your personal data and create username and password, online through the following website: https://unisg.esse3.cineca.it/Start.do?cod_lingua=eng; On the top right of the MENU select Registration Follow the entire Registration Process At the end of the registration, on the top right of the MENU select Login Insert your username and password (defined during the registration process) and login into the Reserved Area On the top right of the MENU select Registrar Office – Pre-enrollment Select the Master in Local Food Policy The process consists in: registering online; completing a motivational test; uploading the documents for the application dossier. The application dossier must contain the following documents: Motivational Test (downloadable from the online application page); Personal essay describing your motivations and reasons for applying to the Master (approx. 400-500 words); Curriculum Vitae (résumé); University transcripts and scanned copy of your Bachelor Degree*; Optional letter of recommendation – preferably uploaded directly to your online dossier; if unsigned, it should be sent directly via email to segreteria@unisg.it; Optional certificates of participation in relevant extra-curricular activities. Please upload documents in either PDF, Word or JPG format. *Note: The following legalization documents will be accepted (with issuing authority indicated in parentheses) for diplomas accredited: within Italy: self-certification of final grade and title (self-generated) or certificate of graduation (registrar); within the EU, EEA, Turkey and Switzerland: “Diploma Supplement” (registrar); outside of the EU, EEA, Turkey and Switzerland: “Declaration of Value” (Italian consulate), “Statement of Comparability” (ENIC-NARIC – CIMEA), Degree Verification (National Student Clearinghouse) or digitally authenticated transcripts (e.g., National Student Clearinghouse, GlobalSign, Transcripts Network). A digital copy of the relevant legalization document must be received by the Registrar Office no later than the first day of the Master. All Non-EU candidates are required to pre-enroll through the consulate, a process that must be completed online through the Universitaly portal, in order to then apply for a study visa. As appointments are limited, such students should book an appointment with the relevant consular representative even prior to their admission to the program in order to complete the pre-enrollment and visa request processes successfully and within the necessary time frame. Students from all countries are eligible to apply. Detailed information can be found in the “Apply for a study visa and legalize academic titles” on the International Student Start Point page of our website. Applicants from Colombia and India should take note of the “Special Cases” section, as the visa processes in both countries has recently proven especially long and complex.

UNISG offers 1 total scholarship in the amount of € 8,500, including Student Housing and Academic Tables, for citizens from low-income countries or lower-middle-income or upper-middle-income countries.

Our approach emphasizes hands-on learning through field trips and classes at our campuses in Pollenzo and Bari, supplemented by our open innovation lab.

Additionally, the Master’s program features a robust network of partnerships in the local food policy arena, encompassing organizations such as Ciheam Bari, Slow Food, and Està, along with academic collaborators like the Department of Cultures, Politics, and Society at the University of Turin and the “Rete delle Politiche Locali del Cibo.”
