Course contents

The Master’s Degree Course in Food Industry Management offers a managerial education specifically tailored to the food industry. It develops students’ ability to analyze economic dynamics, such as consumption trends and access to strategic resources for food production. The course also enhances knowledge of qualitative and quantitative market analysis techniques and consumer behavior, especially in emerging segments that can predict future trends.
The course in Food Industry Management provides a core of economic and social analysis skills, supplemented by detailed knowledge of the technical-scientific aspects related to food and supported by a solid foundation on the cultural processes of food to train young professionals competitive for the international job market.
The students will have the opportunity to come into contact with the business world through field experiences and immersive advanced training – International study trip with a focus on digital innovation – developed together with the companies of the UNISG Network, in order to acquire a full education, with a focus on new food trends.

Field Experience: Innovation Project con le aziende del Network UNISG. Nel secondo semestre del primo anno gli studenti sviluppano un progetto applicato per un’azienda del network UNISG sotto la supervisione di un docente UNISG.

Study trip internazionale con training intensivo sulla digital transformation in collaborazione con Talent Garden. Al termine del percorso formativo in aula, ovvero al termine del primo semestre del secondo anno. i partecipanti seguono una formazione avanzata intensiva presso un educational partner di UNISG. Si tratta di un «campus abroad» di circa una settimana. L’esperienza è integrata con visite aziendali ed incontri con guest speakers.

Internship: Alle studentesse e agli studenti del secondo anno del Corso di Laurea Magistrale, che risultano regolarmente iscritti a tempo pieno, è riservata la possibilità di concorrere all’assegnazione di borse Erasmus + Traineeship per svolgere il tirocinio presso imprese, centri di formazione e di ricerca presenti in uno dei Paesi partecipanti al programma Erasmus+ Traineeship (outgoing).

Upon graduation, such candidates must submit a self-certification of their undergraduate degree.
Candidates in possession of, or in the process of obtaining a three-year undergraduate degree from a non-Italian university accredited in an EU member country or equivalent, and compatible with one of the three-year undergraduate degrees indicated in the attached document “Required Academic Qualifications for Access to the Graduate Degree”, valid for admission to an Italian university.Upon graduation, such candidates must submit a Diploma Supplement issued by the institution that conferred the undergraduate degree by the start of lessons and activities.
Candidates in possession of, or in the process of obtaining a three-year undergraduate degree from a non-Italian university accredited in a non-EU or equivalent country, and compatible with one of the three-year undergraduate degrees indicated in the attached document “Required Academic Qualifications for Access to the Graduate Degree”, valid for admission to an Italian university.

Option a) obtain a Statement of Comparability (SoC) from Enic-Naric (CIMEA) CIMEA, the Italian branch of ENIC-NARIC (European Network of Information Centres – National Academic Recognition Information Centres) determines the equivalency of academic titles online by issuing a Statement of Comparability (SoC).

Option b) Obtain a Declaration of Value from the Italian Consulate. The DV is a document that certifies both the comparability and authenticity of study title. The DV can only be issued by the Italian consulate or embassy in the country where your Bachelor diploma was awarded; more specifically, the Italian embassy or consulate with jurisdiction over the area in which your degree was awarded. You should be aware that it can be a time-consuming process.

Option c) For US graduates only: obtain a Bachelor diploma verification through National Student Clearinghouse. Those students with US titles may request a Bachelor diploma Verification from National Student Clearinghouse in lieu of either the DV or the SoC. The cost of the service is around 15 USD. IMPORTANT: candidates not yet in possession of their Bachelor degree, or rather, still in the process of graduating, will be enrolled conditionally in the Graduate Degree program, pending written proof of having obtained their Bachelor degree by the last available exam session for the 2023/2024 academic year.

Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of the personal dossier (0-70 score) and an on-line written assignment (0-30 score), the maximum obtainable score is 100. The score will be used to compile an admission ranking list for each admission session. A maximum of 40 students will be admitted for the A.Y. 2024-2025. Personal dossier evaluation (Max score 70) Certificate of valid three-year Bachelor degree (or equivalent) with exams, grades, ECTS, Academic Discipline List (SSD), and the final grade, if achieved[1]. A personal CV (preferably in EU format). Personal essay describing your motivations and reasons for applying to the Program (approx. 400-500 words) [1] If issued by an Italian university: Self-certification (autocertificazione) of the undergraduate degree, or of the final grades received; if obtained from a university accredited by an EU-member state or equivalent: Diploma Supplement; if obtained from a university accredited by a non-EU (or equivalent) country: Declaration of Value (Dichiarazione di Valore) for the three-year Bachelor (or equivalent) issued by the relevant Italian consular authorities; Statement of Comparability (SoC); for US graduates only: obtain a Bachelor diploma verification through National Student Clearinghouse On line written assignment (Max score 30) The written assignment consists of 2 questions with a predetermined format and space to respond about food industry, markets and consumption. The assignment will be made in English. Candidates are required to fill the tests individually and independently, therefore any support from third parties will constitute a reason for the candidate to be excluded from the exam. Any answers wholly or partially copied from third-party sources will not be accepted and will result in the test being cancelled. The University of Gastronomic Sciences offers a total fee exemption for non-European students, as well as a partial fee exemption for the first year students of the Graduate Degree in Sustainable Food Innovation & Management.

The Two-Year Graduate Degree in Sustainable Food Innovation & Management prepares professionals with a solid analytical training, an applied knowledge of gastronomic sciences, and an excellent command of management tools.

Notes
A partire dall’anno accademico 2024-2025 sarà attivo un accordo di doppio titolo (double degree agreement) tra USI – Università della Svizzera italiana (Lugano, Svizzera) e UNISG – Università di Scienze Gastronomiche (Pollenzo, Italia).

Gli studenti UNISG iscritti alla Laurea Magistrale in Food Industry Management che trascorrono il terzo semestre all’USI di Lugano e frequentano gli insegnamenti del Master, potranno ottenere il titolo di Master in International Tourism rilasciato dall’USI (equipollente alla Laurea Magistrale nell’ordinamento italiano). Il Master dell’USI è stato istituito nel 2003 e fornisce un’ampia panoramica sul Turismo e le sue molteplici dimensioni. L’USI è un’università svizzera pubblica giovane e altamente internazionale, il luogo perfetto dove imparare il turismo.

L’accordo prevede uno scambio annuale di un numero massimo di 10 studenti per ciascuna istituzione, gli studenti riceveranno specifiche comunicazioni dalla segreteria.
