Course contents

The PhD Program in Computer Science and Mathematics aims to establish a comprehensive training path at the University of Camerino, involving not only resident faculty but also researchers from nearby universities, as well as nationally and internationally recognized scholars who hold prominent positions in their respective research fields.
The project aligns with the strategic objectives outlined in the Horizon Europe Strategic Plan, which emphasizes the importance of smart, sustainable, and inclusive growth. This growth, supported and accelerated by new digital tools, is essential to facilitating the green transition and building a resilient, inclusive, and democratic society.
Starting from the foundations of computer science and mathematics, the program aims to develop methodologies, tools, and technologies—along with their applications—that support economic competitiveness and societal advancement.
To better support and foster interaction and integration with the local context, the training project will also take into account practical applications and technology transfer.
The PhD Program in Computer Science and Mathematics aims to train researchers and professionals capable of independently contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the foundations of Computer Science and Mathematics, as well as to the development of innovative applications and technologies.

Admission selection
The School of Advanced Studies manages a unified, online, English-language admission process open to candidates of all nationalities. The call for applications is published on the UNICAM website, on EURAXESS, on specialized portals, and sent to partner universities. Applicants are required to submit a hypothetical research proposal based on the scientific areas of the PhD programs and the available topics. The application dossier, which includes a CV and optionally a cover letter, is evaluated by a committee composed of both internal and external members. Candidates deemed eligible are invited to an online interview with the committees appointed by the Academic Boards. Final rankings and the allocation of positions are based on the overall evaluation outcome.

Employment opportunities

The knowledge and skills acquired by students who complete the PhD program will enable them to work in companies, public or private institutions, research centers, and universities, where the study and management of complex problems through the methodological approaches and tools of computer science and mathematics are essential.
The training of PhD graduates, also oriented toward the academic field, will follow international best practices in order to conduct research in the relevant disciplines and prepare candidates for integration into the research community.
At the same time, the expertise developed will support innovation and development within national and international companies.
Moreover, the transversal skills acquired during the PhD journey may also enable future PhD holders to launch start-ups and new business ventures capable of establishing themselves both nationally and internationally.
