Course contents

The cv in Philosophical Disciplines develops research on the main areas of philosophical interest for the Faculty of Philosophy of the University Vita-Salute San Raffaele. These are basically the following four: ethics and the philosophy of the person; the philosophy of mind, cognition and language; metaphysics and aesthetics; the history of ideas.

The first area is concerned with issues in ethics, political philosophy and the philosophy of the person.
The second area is concerned with issues in the philosophy of mind, of language and of cognitive science, as well as with their connection with similar disciplines, such as the philosophy of mathematics and of logic.
The third area is concerned with the issues of being, truth and beauty, starting from the classics to contemporary perspectives.
The fourth area is devoted to tackling traditional philosophical issues and renewing them by focusing on the evolution of the issues, the concepts and the languages that have expressed them in the philosophical tradition.

The second cv develops the same issues, in the areas of ethics and the philosophy of the person, the philosophy of mind and language, metaphysics and aesthetics, and history of ideas, with a particular attention to the international context of philosophical research.
Research projects concerning issues which are particularly at the centre of philosophical discussion at an international level will be given priority, as well as those connecting different cultural environments and different national traditions, and those intersecting philosophical knowledge with research coming from other disciplinary perspectives, in the natural as well as in the human and social sciences.
To promote these goals, the University has already established stable relationships of cooperation with University of Köln (Germany), the University of Tours (France) and the University of Tolosa (France)

Admission to one of the Curricula of the PhD Course follows a two-stage comparative evaluation procedure: Evaluation of candidates’ qualification Interview For the purposes of the final ranking up to 60 points can be given in the first assessment phase to the candidates’ qualifications and up to 40 points can be given instead during the second assessment phase. Candidates with a final score lower than 60% of the total score (100 points) will be considered non-eligible.

6 fellowships:

• 4 three-years free fellowships
• 2 project-based fellowships.

The yearly amount of the fellowship is €16,000.00, subject to the INPS [Italian Social Security] separate management contribution, according to the regulations in force.
The total fellowship duration is three years. However, it is renewed yearly upon successful completion of the annual examination.
All the PhD students (including those without a fellowship) may apply for a budget for periods of research to be carried out abroad.
As of the second PhD Course year, all PhD students are granted a budget amount to at least 10% of the fellowship.

  • For the provision of the service specified above, the data you provided may be transmitted to other parties (e.g. CINECA) appointed to provide technological support, as data processors. Rights of data subjects:

  • You can exercise the rights granted to you by current legislation on the protection of personal data, including the right to ask the data controller to access your personal data and to correct or erase them, restrict or object to processing of your data, in addition to the right of data portability within the limits of the provisions of art. 15-21 of Regulation the 2016/679;
  • Pursuant to art. 77 of the Regulation, if you believe that the processing of your data violates the legislation on the protection of personal data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Italian Data Protection Authority or the control authority of the EU Member State in which you usually reside, work or the place where the alleged violation occurred;
