Training Objectives
The PhD in Biotechnology and Biosciences aims to train experts who can carry out advanced research activities in the biological disciplines and biotechnology. The Doctor's research themes concern the study of the function, organization and expression of the genome of microbial, plant and animal organisms (including humans), to deepen their basic knowledge, also in view of possible applications in biotechnology. The methodologies used are mainly those of genetic, microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry and applied biology. Starting from this common objective and from a highly cross-cutting advanced teaching activity, in order to train PhDs with highly qualified skills in specific areas of Biotechnology and Life Sciences, three main areas of research defined as such: 1) environmental; 2) genetics and microbiology; 3) biochemical-molecular. PhD students will be involved full-time in a research project, to which they will also make critical and proactive contributions. In this way, they will acquire a marked scientific and management autonomy, also thanks to the numerous scientific, national and international collaborations in which they will be involved.

Employment opportunities

The main objective of the Doctorate in Biotechnology and Biosciences is the training of PhDs with skills
multidisciplinary in the field of new biomolecular technologies and, more generally, of the 'Life Sciences'. These turn out
that can be used in various fields of applied and basic research, with multiple job opportunities both in the academic field and in institutions
public or private non-academic research. Among these, in particular, advanced biomedical research and molecular diagnostics in
genetic, microbial, agri-food and environmental fields. The research activity carried out by doctoral students during the three years of the course,
including significant exposure to international experiences and initiatives, will give them a broad vision e
transversal of various avant-garde scientific problems, making them capable of facing them independently, identifying and
applying the most effective and current experimental strategies. The foreseen outlets are various, including:
- Experimental research at national and international academic and extra-academic research centers;
- Research and development activities within pharmaceutical or biotechnological companies;
- Scientific-management coordination within national and international research and regulatory bodies.
