Course contents

The PhD in Biotechnology has a strategic value for the University of Catania because it provides the University with a third specific teaching level, not yet existing, downstream of the LM in Medical Biotechnology, activated in 2016, in Agricultural Biotechnology and the LM Pharmacy and CTF. It also comes when the rationalization of local forces is completed, in this sector with the activation of the new Biological Tower in which the Biotechnological incubator called BRIT and the CAPIR preclinical studies center are located.
The doctorate contains 4 curricula that represent the biotechnological souls of the University of Catania, with a balanced but significant presence of the respective SSDs and CUN Areas, with the addition of a Bioinformatics and System Biology contribution.
The common soul of the doctorate is the technological one, linked to the molecular application of genetic engineering. The fields of study will focus on the acquisition and exploitation of genetic, transcriptomic and proteomic knowledge in the animal and plant fields, on the identification and characterization of innovative molecules of potential industrial or health use, on the development of innovative analytical systems of biological molecules and natural, on the guided advancement of genetic and nutritional improvement in the agricultural world.
