Course contents

The primary objective of the Doctorate is the training of young researchers in the fields of basic and applied information technology. The acquisition of skills in:
a) autonomous research with internationally valid and technologically transferable scientific results;
b) coordination with other experts on research / development projects with strictly IT and multidisciplinary topics;
c) coordination of small research and development teams in both academic and business contexts;
d) international communication of projects and results;
e) evaluation of the results and of the scientific literature at least in one sector of specialization.
Some of the research in computer science active at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is strongly linked to Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence (e.g. bio-inspired algorithms, etc.) and Machine Learning and Robotic and Autonomous Systems as well as security issues and encryption. Research is also active in the field of algorithm development and combinatorics.

The scientific research activities of interest to the doctorate explicitly refer to both industrial and basic sectors of interest. In particular, the following are cited by way of example only:
- Smart Cities and Communities (eg Mobility in an urban environment)
- Assistive Technologies
- Multimedia Forensics
- Cryptography and IT security
- Video Analytics (e.g. Retail, Security, etc.)
- Big Data.
