Course contents

The PG degree programme in “Economics” aims at providing students with the tools necessary to carry out professional economists’ activities in the field of research (not only academic), as well as to occupy qualified positions in
public and private organizations (enterprises, banks, financial firms, public
administration bodies), even on an international level, where there is a requirement for capability to analyse, even with quantitative techniques, to interpret and to foresee macroeconomic and financial trends, to understand the effects of political economy provisions, to analyse market structure. Furthermore, this programme intends to offer an ideal preparation for carrying on economic studies in order to gain a research doctorate in the best Italian and foreign universities. To this scope, the programme offers close investigation of economic theory as well as advanced analytical techniques, giving a solid and updated theoretical background and familiarity with the quantitative methods most frequently used in applications. The educational path is articulated into a first year mainly dedicated to acquiring and developing tools and methodologies of quantitative analysis of particular relevance for economic research and to facing matters of advanced macroeconomic and microeconomic theory. In the second year of the programme, more space is devoted to investigating specific fields of application of economic analysis, enabling students to privilege macroeconomic and monetary aspects (development economics, monetary economics, international economics) or matters more closely connected to the microeconomic functioning of markets and institutions (labour economics, industrial economics, public economics). Coherently with the intent of favouring professional outcomes in the international field, and of attracting students also from other countries, all courses in this degree programme are taught in English, and all exams and the final dissertation are in English as well. The degree programme in "Economics" gives the specialized knowledge for immediately entering public and private economic and financial institutions, international ones as well (World Bank, European Central Bank, International Monetary Fund, Bank of Italy), controlling and regulatory bodies (Antitrust Authorities as well as international and national Regulatory Bodies) and other institutions, enterprises and consultancy companies requiring advanced economic-financial skills. The programme prepares for the professions of economist in economic-financial institutions, economist in research centres, economist in public and private enterprise, banks and financial firms, financial analyst, econometrist, researcher and expert in the economic-social field.

Enrolment can take place only after an adequate personal preparation has been ascertained.
Access to this ascertainment is possible only to those having one of the following minimum curricular requisites, to be documented at the relevant Student Secretariat:
degree holders of class L-18 (former L-17) and L-33 (former L-28): free access;
degree holders of other classes:
- at least 18 CFU in one or more of the following SSDs in the economic field: SECS-P/01 or SECS-P/02 or SECS-P/03 or SECS-P/04 or SECS-P/05 or SECS-P/06
- at least 18 CFU in one or more of the following SSDs in the mathematical-statistical field: SECS-S/01 or SECS-S/02 or SECS-S/03 or SECS-S/04 or SECS-S/05 or SECS-S/06 or MAT/06
There is tolerance up to a maximum of 10%, i.e. 4 CFU. Such margin of tolerance can be applied either to only one of the above SSD groups, or to more groups.
For candidates having the above mentioned minimum curricular requisites, adequate personal preparation is considered ascertained if one of the following requisites is fulfilled:
a. Degree grade not below 99/110;
b. Level B2 (Common European Standards) Certification of knowledge of the English language.
