Course contents

Documents, books, cultural heritage, actual and organized in archives and libraries, on the Web, in places and cultural institutions, are the elements through which traces and the memory of the past interact with the present and become essential tools for the conscious participation of people in the transformations of the models of production and use of data, information, knowledge, profoundly modified by the effects of the digital revolution in progress.
The Master's Degree in Scienze del libro, del documento, del patrimonio culturale aims to train professionals and experts with the theoretical, methodological, technological and practical skills to interpret, organize and manage these elements and these complex environments, with a rigorous and creative interdisciplinary perspective, able to read the traces of the past and those of the present and, at the same time, to prefigure those of the future.
The educational activities of the Master's Degree are centered on the disciplines of books, documents and cultural heritage, on the humanistic and historical tradition to which they are part, and are open to literary, information technology, legal, organizational and communication cultures. Starting from this core of knowledge, integrated and cohesive with each other, three paths are developed, dedicated to the archival, library science and cultural heritage, in a perspective open to convergence between disciplinary traditions consolidated and emerging ones, indispensable to understand the evolutionary network of interactions between data, documents, spaces, places, institutions, people, in their different contexts.
Graduates of this course become aware and creative archivists and librarians, able to work in archives, libraries, cultural institutions of the present and of the future; professionals with the necessary skills to promote and communicate reading, in the various environments of the “book chain”; innovative professional figures for public administrations and businesses, able to plan and implement activities of knowledge and enhancement of cultural heritage. The training course, in its articulated and flexible modulations, allows graduates to obtain the training requirements provided for by the recent legislation for enrollment in the Italian lists of cultural heritage professionals (archivists and librarians), and guarantees the acquisition of innovative skills , broad and transversal, necessary to understand the many aspects of contemporary "documentality", rooted in memory and, at the same time, a powerful factor of change for documentary and cultural places and institutions, for people and for society as a whole .
