Il Master è strutturato in 1500 ore di cui:
- n. 392 ore di didattica frontale;
- n. 150 ore di stage;
- n. 833 di studio ed altre attività;
- n. 125 ore previste per la prova finale (cui corrisponde l'acquisizione di un numero di crediti pari a 5);
- e le rimanenti ore in attività di studio individuale.

Employment opportunities

L’applied data scientist si occupa del pre-processing e della organizzazione dei dati, spesso grandi moli di dati (big data), al fine di effettuare le analisi necessarie per inferire nuova conoscenza estraendola dai dati disponibili. Pertanto, sviluppa appositi modelli e supporta i processi decisionali relativi ad aspetti critici del business. In particolare, nell’ambito di questo master i settori applicativi più rilevanti, da cui saranno estratti degli use-cases, includono banche e finanza, biologia e sanità, pubbliche amministrazioni, marketing, logistica e produzione, aerospazio, climate change, fenomeni complessi fisici ed astrofisici. L’applied data scientist deve possedere non solo data analytical skills, ma anche programming skills, la capacità di gestire big data e progettare algoritmi che includano anche la conoscenza del particolare dominio applicativo a cui i dati fanno riferimento. Questa figura professionale deve essere in grado di interpretare correttamente i risultati ottenuti, di visualizzarli in modo opportuno e di narrare, tramite storytelling, le soluzioni adottate agli stakeholders coinvolti nel processo di business decision making. Nel suo bagaglio devono essere presenti metodi di analisi tradizionali e non, al fine di essere in grado di costruire modelli statistici e scoprire pattern nei dati. Alle tradizionali capacità di accesso ai dati in DBMS tramite SQL, l’applied data scientist deve coniugare buone capacità di preprocessing dei dati mediante operazioni ETL e di effettuare un’analisi esplorativa dei dati.
