Course contents

The Course sets itself as a reference point for high qualified education in branches of study and research pertaining to that matter.

The ultimate goal of the UniSR International PhD in Molecular Medicine is to train PhDs capable of fully entering the research sector in all its components (basic research, translational research, clinical research and industrial research), and in all ambitions connected in various ways to research, such as scientific communication, the protection of intellectual property, the management of complex projects, or participation in the editorial boards of scientific journals, to name a few. Particular attention will be given to digital training and the use of artificial intelligence tools in data analysis and experimental programming.

The Course hicomprises four majors (curricula) of Molecular Medicine:

- Cellular and Molecular Biology
- Basic and Applied Immunology and Oncology
- Clinical and experimental Medicine
- Neuroscience and Experimental Neurology
- Gene and Cellular Therapy

Admission to one of the Curricula of the PhD Course follows a two-stage comparative evaluation procedure: - Evaluation of candidates’ qualification - Interview. For the purposes of the final ranking up to 30 points can be given in the first assessment phase to the candidates’ qualifications and up to 70 points can be given instead during the second assessment phase. Candidates with a final score lower than 60% of the total score (100 points) will be considered non-eligible.

32 positions with fellowships:

- 3 two-years free fellowships PhS (to be assigned to resident students who will enroll in the last year of Residency Program in the medical area at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University)
- 1 two-years free project-based fellowships (PhS)
- 7 tree-years free fellowships
- 21 project-based fellowships.

The yearly amount of the fellowship is €18,000.00, subject to the INPS [Italian Social Security] separate management contribution, according to the regulations in force.
The total fellowship duration is three years. However, it is renewed yearly upon successful completion of the annual examination.
All the PhD students (including those without a fellowship) may apply for a budget for periods of research to be carried out abroad.
As of the second PhD Course year, all PhD students are granted a budget amount to at least 10% of the fellowship.
