Course contents

Objectives
The Master degree in Artificial Intelligence and Automation Engineering aims at providing high-level competences for the design, management, development and innovation in the fields of advanced intelligent systems, and of control systems and robotics. In particular, the program is focused on human-machine interaction in a wide sense: the graduate in Artificial Intelligence and Automation Engineering will be able to integrate methods and technologies from different fields such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, high performance processing of massive data collections, human-robot interfaces, control and automation systems.

Courses
The program provides advanced competences in the area of artificial intelligence and automation engineering, with courses covering topics such as: engineering tools for the design, evaluation and programming of high-performance and parallel computer architectures; artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques for the implementation of intelligent systems; design patterns and methodologies for the implementation of complex software systems and distributed applications; advanced interfaces for the interaction with robots, such as computer vision systems and haptic interfaces; techniques for the analysis and design of discrete event systems and of multivariable and nonlinear control systems, with applications to robot control, path planning and multi-agent systems; mathematical and algorithmic tools for optimization over networks. The students can complete the program by choosing among a wide offer of elective courses focusing either on the design of intelligent systems or on robotics and automation.

Internship and international opportunities
The Department of Information Engineering and Mathematics has a long record of collaborations at both academic and industrial level. This provides the students with the opportunity of spending one semester either in qualified universities and research institutions, within student exchange programs, or doing an internship at companies or research labs in the area of computer and automation engineering.

L'accesso al corso di studio è riservato ai possessori di laurea o diploma universitario di durata triennale, o altro titolo acquisito all'estero e riconosciuto idoneo. L'accesso prevede che i candidati soddisfino requisiti curriculari e di preparazione personale. Non è prevista la possibilità di iscriversi con debiti formativi in ingresso.


Requisiti curriculari
Si richiede il possesso della Laurea in una delle seguenti classi:
- L-7 Ingegneria Civile ed Ambientale (8)
- L-8 Ingegneria dell'Informazione (9)
- L-9 Ingegneria Industriale (10)
- L-30 Scienze e Tecnologie Fisiche (25)
- L-31 Scienze e Tecnologie Informatiche (26)
- L-35 Scienze Matematiche (32)

o classe equivalente secondo l'ex D.M.509/99 (il numero della classe equivalente è riportato tra parentesi, insieme al nome ove questo sia diverso).

Soddisfano i requisiti curriculari anche i possessori di laurea specialistica ex D.M.509/99 o di laurea secondo l'ordinamento previgente l'ex D.M.509/99, nelle discipline ingegneristiche, matematiche e fisiche, previa valutazione del Comitato per la Didattica di una opportuna differenziazione degli obiettivi formativi di tali percorsi di studio rispetto al CdLM.

Per gli studenti in possesso di un titolo di studio rilasciato da un'università straniera, la valutazione del possesso dei requisiti curriculari è demandata al Comitato per la Didattica, il quale verifica in particolare:
- che il titolo sia rilasciato al termine di un corso di studi di durata almeno triennale;
- che gli obiettivi formativi siano sufficientemente corrispondenti a quelli di una delle classi di Laurea sopra riportate.

Le conoscenze richieste per l'accesso al corso di Laurea Magistrale sono quelle proprie degli ambiti disciplinari della matematica, della statistica, della fisica, dell'ingegneria dell'automazione, informatica, elettronica e delle telecomunicazioni.

È richiesta la conoscenza della lingua inglese al livello almeno B2 del Quadro di riferimento delle lingue del Consiglio d'Europa.
Gli studenti, di madrelingua non italiana, che non raggiungono almeno il livello A1 di conoscenza della lingua italiana dovranno prevedere nei propri piani di studio attività formative finalizzate al raggiungimento di tale livello.


Requisiti di preparazione personale
Gli studenti che soddisfano i requisiti curriculari sono ammessi direttamente se hanno riportato una votazione finale non inferiore a 95/110, altrimenti devono sostenere una prova di ammissione. La prova di ammissione si svolge di norma in forma orale. Per gli studenti in possesso di laurea specialistica ex D.M.509/99 o di laurea secondo l'ordinamento previgente l'ex D.M.509/99, la verifica dei requisiti di preparazione personale verrà valutata caso per caso dal Comitato per la Didattica.

Per gli studenti in possesso di titolo di studio conseguito all'estero, il Comitato per la Didattica effettua una selezione che prevede la valutazione della preparazione personale basata sul curriculum di studi e una prova di ammissione in forma scritta e/o orale.

The graduate in Artificial Intelligence and Automation Engineering can find jobs within industries, public companies, financial institutions and research centers, whose R&D divisions carry out activities in the fields of information systems incorporating intelligence, industrial automation and robotics. Furthermore, the MSc in Artificial Intelligence and Automation Engineering allows the students to access PhD programs in the areas of Information Engineering. More specifically, the professions which are more suitable to the specialist in artificial intelligence and automation engineering are those requiring advanced competences and skills on: industrial automation and process control; robotic systems; modelling and simulation of dynamical systems; data analysis; information systems including artificial intelligence; design of hardware/software integrated systems; man-machine interfaces exploiting natural language; human-robot interfaces; design and management of biological databases. The graduate in Computer and Automation Engineering can access the Italian professional society of engineers, within the section Information Engineering.
